Fiber Internet and Modern Lifestyles: Fast Lane Living

Fiber internet is the latest type of internet, bringing access to more homes and allowing for increased speeds. For those who work from home, enjoy streaming, love gaming, or otherwise need high-speed internet, fiber provides many benefits and may be worth the upgrade. Those who want to do more around their home will want to see if this is the right option for them.

Is an Upgrade Needed?

It can be hard to tell if it’s time to upgrade to a different type of internet, but there are signs that can help with this decision. Since fiber provides numerous benefits, it may be time to start looking into fiber internet providers in your area if you notice any of the following signs.

  • Internet is slow during certain parts of the day
  • Internet is slow when more than one device is connected
  • Internet lags while gaming or streaming videos
  • Internet disconnects regularly
  • Internet use is capped
  • Internet use isn’t fast enough for working from home

Faster Speeds

Fiber internet is incredibly fast, and there’s no limit to it. Users can expect extremely rapid upload and download speeds, so there’s no waiting hours for a file to download or something to upload to the internet. This is perfect for those who download a lot or have to transfer files when working from home. It’s also great for those who use the internet to stream or game, as they can expect it to work fast all the time.

Better Reliability

It’s incredibly frustrating to have the internet go down regularly. Wind blowing? The internet is down. A little bit of rain? The Internet goes down. It’s 5:00 and everyone is home from work? The Internet goes down. If the internet goes down constantly, whether it’s for a few minutes or a few hours, it can be hard to enjoy streaming, work from home, or do anything else online. With fiber internet, this isn’t a problem, as it is far more reliable and will be less likely to go down.

Able to Work From Home

Working from home typically requires high-speed internet, as it is crucial to stay connected throughout the day. It may be necessary to download or upload documents, be on video calls with other workers, handle tasks online, and more. If the internet slows down or goes down completely, it can be challenging to get work done and can impact a person’s performance. With fiber internet, though, it’s possible to stay connected throughout the day and there’s no need to worry about issues with the internet.

Better Quality

There’s nothing quite like the nostalgia of the TV picture messing up while watching a show, but that’s not what people want to see when they watch a movie today. TVs and other devices have come far, and most people do expect a higher quality than they did in the past. With a slower internet, though, the picture may not come in clear or the sound can end up skipping because of the connection. With fiber internet, on the other hand, the quality is exceptional and there’s no need to struggle to watch a movie or show.

Multiple Device Use

Today, many devices throughout the home are internet-connected, not just the computer. Phones, TVs, even stoves and refrigerators may be connected. If the internet can’t handle multiple devices being used, it’s going to be challenging to run everything at once. The internet could slow down significantly if someone is playing games on the computer and someone else is trying to stream a show on the TV. Ready to turn the home into a smart home? Faster internet is key. Fiber internet makes it possible to connect everything, allowing for more automation in the home.

Better Security

Security is crucial today, as there is a lot of information that can be stolen online. With a cable connection, it is possible to splice into the connection to steal information. While most people don’t have to worry much about this, it is still a possibility and one to be concerned about for those who may work from home and handle sensitive information. It is not possible to do this with fiber internet. The connection itself is far more secure, keeping everything safer when online.

No Throttling

Throttling is a practice internet companies started using to prevent too much data from being used by one household. Today, with smart homes and streaming, many people use quite a bit of internet throughout the month, and throttling can mean there are times when the internet runs incredibly slow or doesn’t run at all. For someone who works from home, this is incredibly problematic. With fiber internet, though, throttling is not needed or used. There’s no need to worry about the internet running slow at the end of the month or having to pay more to keep it running after high usage.

Are there Downsides to Fiber Internet?

Of course, there are downsides to everything, and it is crucial to consider them before making any decision. Fiber internet has plenty of benefits, but there are two potential downsides to consider before deciding whether this is the right option.

  • Can be More Expensive – For those who have just a basic internet connection, fiber internet can seem more expensive. And, it can mean an increase in monthly costs. However, for those that need high-speed internet, it’s well worth the cost. Just comparing the price and the upload and download speeds of cable internet can show it’s more efficient in the long run.
  • Limited Availability – Fiber internet isn’t available everywhere, so some people may find that it’s not possible to upgrade at this time. Talk to local providers to find out if fiber is rolling out nearby and will be available soon or to request it.

If you’re feeling limited by your internet or you’d like to upgrade your home and do more, now might be a great time to look into upgrading your connection. Take the time to check out fiber providers nearby to learn more about how much it will cost and the potential benefits. You may be amazed at the difference once your internet is upgraded.

  • I had DSL up until Dec of 2022. That was all they offered or satellite. Thankfully, we had a company come in and run fiber to our community. It was a huge upgrade for us. I currently have a gig for speed which seems to be plenty even when my son is gaming. But it’s just two people that live here.
