How To Transform A Fixer-Upper Into Your Dream Home

Whether you are moving to the city or the countryside, you may be disappointed to find that the properties you view simply don’t match up to your vision of your dream home. However, this is because unless you were to build it brick for brick, your dream house likely does not ‘exist’, at least not in the same way as it does within your mind.

Thankfully, there are various ways in which you can go about making this dream a reality. For example, you could instead invest your money into an older house or property, that you can then transform through DIY into your dream home. This is also a great way to save money, as you’ll be able to purchase a fixer-upper for a much lower price (even if it does require some TLC).

How To Transform A Fixer-Upper Into Your Dream Home

With that in mind, here are some top tips that you can use to turn a fixer-upper into a dream home for your family.

  • Focus on the necessary maintenance tasks first. Before you can begin to spruce up your home’s interior to align with your dream vision, you must first focus on the necessary maintenance that is required to make the space hospitable. You’ll likely have an idea of what these tasks are ahead of time (they will be included in property documents), meaning you can prepare for the associated costs and even reach out to some contractors ahead of time. If you aren’t sure where to begin, write down a list of everything you need to do, before ranking them based on relative importance. For example, structural issues should be made a priority over a room needing a fresh coat of paint.
  • Work with an interior designer. It’s sometimes hard to take your vision from your mind and put it on paper. However, this can be made a lot easier by working with an interior designer, such as a member of the team at Est Est Inc. This is because they have years of experience within the industry, and will be able to advise you every step of the way – whether you’re remodeling your bathroom or the entire property top to bottom. Furthermore, their keen eye for detail may help you elevate your own design choices even further, creating a home that you’ll love to show off to your friends. Working with an interior designer can also save money, as they’ll be able to dissuade you from making any design mistakes you’re likely to regret further down the line.
  • Remember that good things take time. One of the biggest mistakes that homeowners make when renovating their homes is trying to rush the process. Of course, doing so is understandable, you’ll likely want to move in as soon as possible so that you can start enjoying the space. However, it’s far better to take your time with this kind of project. Not only will this give you a chance to save up money and adjust your budget, but it will also ensure that all home upgrades are completed to a high standard. This means you’ll need to carry out less regular maintenance.

  • My house is kinda a fixer up. I ripped out the carpet and put in vinyl plank flooring. But I’m still working on the trim and want to paint. I was hoping to get everything done this summer but it hasn’t been possible financially.

  • We redid a fixer upper once. A 13 room home on an acre and a half of land. I loved that house, but I’m glad we’re not in it anymore because it was in a state with snow! LOL
