My Review:

Last week I got around to trying out  The All American SUN OVEN®    that I received a while back.  I was a bit intimidated at first, but once I sat down with the instructions, I realized that using it would be a breeze. I couldn’t be happier with the results. The SUN OVEN® was easy to set up and easy to use.  It’s light weight enough for me to use on my own, yet sturdy enough to be stable when set up outside. As you can see in the photos below, I used the SUN OVEN®  in our back yard.

It was just placed on the ground on a level spot, and then I opened the panels. I followed the directions on how to clean the oven before the first use. (This was a simple procedure.  Letting the oven heat up then placing a pot with white vinegar inside, then steaming the inside of the oven with the heated vinegar.  After waiting the allotted time, I went back out, and removed the pan of vinegar.  I let the oven cool a bit, then used a clean old towel to wipe down the insides.)  Now that my oven was clean, I hung the rack inside and then closed the glass lid. Now I waited for about about another 20 minutes for the inside of the oven to reach about 300 degrees.

I then took my casserole dish out to the Sun Oven.  I used a mitt to open the lid, then I placed the casserole dish onto the rack, and closed the lid.  Over the next couple of hours, I kept my eye out for the shadows around the Sun Oven.  It is ideal to have the shadows equal on each side.  When I noticed a significant change I would go outside a turn the oven a bit, until the shadows were once again equal on both sides.

OK – now I have a confession to make.  I stupidly closed my eyes – just for a second (all right, more like an hour) – and when I woke up it was raining.  ACK – I ran outside and opened up the Sun Oven and grabbed my casserole dish…and quickly dropped it because I forgot to bring out my oven mitts.  I ran back inside and grabbed my oven mitts, then ran back outside again and retrieved our dinner.  Luckily, it hadn’t been raining for long, so the temperature inside the oven hadn’t dropped much. After bringing in the casserole, I brought the Sun Oven onto the back porch, and wiped it down with another clean towel – no other cleaning was necessary.

Our Sun Oven dinner was cooked to perfection.  The chicken, rice, and vegetables were tender and you would never know that they weren’t cooked inside in our regular oven!

Sun Oven sells additional products that can be of great value when camping or dealing with a natural disaster situation.
