Today I want to tell you a little about Week 1 as a #NSNation Blogger.
According to the information from Nutrisystem, you are guaranteed to lose 5lbs. your first week, IF, you follow all the directions.
Did you catch that – IF YOU FOLLOW ALL THE DIRECTIONS.
I didn’t (hanging my head in shame).
As part of my first shipment of food, I received a Fast 5 Kit. This kit contained all the food (except for non- starchy veggies, which were to be added to our daily eating plan) that we were to eat for the first 5 days. Along with the packaged Nutrisystem food and the approved veggies, we were to drink at least 8 servings of non-caloric liquids – with the emphasis on water.
I DON’T DRINK WATER…well, I rarely drink water. I can’t stand the stuff. Maybe it’s all in my head, but when I just drink water, with nothing added, I feel like I’m sloshing. I feel uncomfortable. I feel like barfing. So, I rarely drink the stuff. Now I know that soda is not good for you. Really I do, but right now, it’s how I manage to get any liquid down at all. Diet Caffeine Free Coke…with 2 packets of Pure Lime per can, to be exact… is what keeps me from being totally dehydrated. And even then, I didn’t get down 8 glasses each day. Yes, I did get a couple of glasses of seltzer water down (with the addition of a couple of packets of Pure Grapefruit), but I realize that that isn’t going to cut it in the long run. This is going to be difficult, but I’m determined to increase my intake of water, decrease my intake of soda and get the minimum of 8 glasses total a day, of fluids.
Another confession – I didn’t eat all the food that I was supposed to. I have a very bad habit of putting off eating for hours and hours after I get up. The reason is two-fold. First, I’m just not hungry, and second, I know that once I do eat, I’m going to be hungry again, sooner that I would like. It’s a catch 22. Another hurdle that I’m going to have to learn to jump.
Now, onto the food itself. I had built up in my head that the food couldn’t possible taste very good. After all, everything in the Fast 5 kit is “dry”. Maybe my taste buds are weird or maybe it was because I was so convinced that the food would be yucky…Well, I was totally surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Seriously! Here are some of my favorite Fast 5 items:
Banana Nut Muffin
Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bar
Loaded Baked Potato
Red Beans and Rice
Chili with Beans
Rotini and Meatballs
Once I graduated and could eat any of the other Nutrisystem foods that were sent to me, I had a lot more of a choice…which was actually a bit harder to handle. (Yeah, I know I’m weird!) I mean, with all the food in my freezer and pantry, how the heck do I decide what to choose So, a few of the other items that I’ve had are a Honey Wheat Bagel (excellent), a Fudge Bar (excellent to the max), Chefs Table Orzo, Shrimp and Lobster Langostino (it was okay, but honestly…it was a bit too spicy for me – and don’t let that be your guide because my family knows that I don’t do ANY spicy…toddlers would laugh at my definition of spicy:-)
I never really felt hungry. Oh, I’ve wanted to grab a candy bar, or a bag of chips, but not out of hunger. Just a physiological nudging. I love veggies and salads, so adding more into my daily eating has been easy. Skipping the butter – YES, that’s hard. Leaving off the croutons – YES, that’s hard. Mindless crunching on crackers and cookies – oh my, YES, that’s been hard.
BUT, being so overweight is REALLY HARD. Loathing what I see in the mirror – EVEN HARDER!
I’m grateful for this opportunity. Grateful for the accountability. Grateful for the kick in the backside.
And now, what you’ve all been waiting for. After not following through on eating the plan as outlined, not doing any exercise whatsoever and not drinking my water. I lost:
4.7 lbs.
So, on to my next week. Here’s to my success!

Congrats on the 4.7 pounds! Hopefully you can get a little more water in to help boost your success! I know how hard that is. I’m not a fan of water either 🙁
wow, 4.7 pounds is just awesome… congrats! Can’t wait to follow your journey!
Almost 5 pounds is still something to be proud of! Good luck next week!
Congrats!!! That’s a fantastic loss and definitely something to be VERY proud of this week. I am also very surprised by the foods! I was expecting the worst (or, ‘not the best’).. but everything that I have tried so far is very appetizing.
Good luck on week 2! :O)
Oh.. also, have you tried to use Mio or another water flavoring brand? I’ve always been a water drinker, but 8 glasses can be a little too much to stand. I always (and still do) drink 2-3 bottles of water -plain- and thereafter I will put drops of Mio into the others to mix it up a bit. Just an idea! 🙂
I like that they send you all the food. The food looks good too.
Great post. You sound a lot like me. I do not drink water and I never eat in the morning because I know that I will never stop! Thank you for the great info.
Congrats on the 4.7 lbs! I’m so glad you said you can’t stand water- people look at me like I’m nuts when I say that. It’s just so…. weirdly tasteless. It freaks me out & no amount of lemon fixes it.
