Pixar is Ready to Turn Our Minds Inside Out…
…Frugaa and Fandango is Ready to Save Us Some Money
Everyone, every age, gets excited for new Pixar movies because they have a way of telling a story that is heart-warming and touching for children and adults alike. It is almost as if they know how to get inside their audience’s minds to give them exactly what they want. In their upcoming new movie, however, Pixar looks to get inside their character’s mind in Inside Out.
The plot, which starts off fairly normal before taking a turn for the strange, centers on an 11-year old girl named Riley. Riley grew up in the Midwest, but her father has just recently accepted a new job in San Francisco, CA. Riley’s life is uprooted, and she is forced to figure out where she fits in her new home city. This is where the plot gets strange, though, as the bulk of the film will take place inside Riley’s head (with views into the heads of other characters, as well). Director Pete Doctor, who won an Oscar for Up, plans to take his audience into the mind of an 11-year old girl, using personified character as her emotions to show the inner struggle a young girl feels in a new environment. Doctor has some star-power backing him up, too, as Riley’s emotions, whether positive or negative, will be voiced by some of Hollywood’s most famous and talented voice actors, including Amy Poehler as Joy, Bill Hader as Fear, Mindy Kaling as Disgust, Phyllis Smith as Sadness, and Lewis Black as Anger.
The premise sounds strange, but how do you bet against a deck stacked like this? Excluding short films (which have been impressive as well), Pixar hasn’t had a hiccup yet, and they have brought animated films back to everyone’s consciousness. While it may be difficult to get behind this idea on paper, one look at the trailer on Fandango lets you know that Pixar will once again hit a homerun with this movie. Putting Amy Poehler, who epitomizes a blend of comedy and heart in her now completed hit sitcom Parks and Recreation, in a room with comics like Bill Hader and Lewis Black is a stroke of genius that is going to yield hilarious results.
With this upcoming original movie, Pixar tops off a long list of exciting projects for the future. Looking at the list of films that Pixar has in production, including Toy Story 4 and the much-anticipated Finding Dory, it seems like Pixar is going to run the world for at least a little while longer. Who is complaining, though? If they keep providing their audiences with films that are liked and well received by all ages, and it seems like they will, why stop them? My guess is that if you head out to theaters to watch Inside Out on opening weekend, whether you’re with your kids, your significant other, or both, you will be doing yourself a favor. You’ll especially be doing yourself a favor if you take a look at Frugaa first to see if you can find any discounts.
