We eat Quaker® cereals all day long.

So nope, it’s not just for breakfast… it’s for all day every day!

Christmas Crack starring Quaker® Cereals
Christmas Crack starring Quaker® Cereals

We love Quaker® brand products.  Each family member has a favorite.  Mine is Quaker® Simply Granola Oats, Honey & Raisins.  I eat it for breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.  It tastes so good.  It doesn’t contain cinnamon, so it’s one of the few granola’s that I can have. I also really like Quaker® Real Medleys®  Cherry Almond Pecan.  My husband likes to munch on Quaker® Oatmeal Squares at his office and while he’s watching TV at night.  Our kids have eaten Quaker® Life for all of their lives, and now their kids are eating it too.  (But none of them are named Mikey;-)

Yes, we love Quaker® cereals  for the taste, but we also eat them because they are a good source of fiber. My fave, Quaker® Simply Granola Oats, Honey & Raisins, has 5 g’s that comes from whole grain rolled oats and whole grain rolled wheat!

Besides being a great breakfast food, Quaker® cereals are great for snacking and can be used in all kinds of recipes, from sweet to savory. We’ve been cooking all day long, getting ready for holiday meals with family and friends.  We used Quaker® Oatmeal Squares as a topping on our Funeral Potatoes Casserole and on our Apple Crisp. We used  Quaker® Simply Granola  &  Quaker® Oatmeal Squares in our Christmas Crack.

Christmas Crack?  What is that?

Christmas Crack starring Quaker® Simply Granola Oats, Honey & Raisins & Quaker® Oatmeal Squares

 Ingredients

6 cups Quaker® Simply Granola Oats, Honey & Raisins

8  cups Quaker® Oatmeal Squares

1 1/2 cups butter (3 sticks)

2 cups granulated sugar

2 cups light corn syrup

(I found all the ingredients , including the Quaker® cereals at my local Walmart .)

Directions

Gently mix the Quaker® cereals (and any other dry ingredients you choose to use), then set aside.

Christmas Crack 7
Quaker® cereals mixed together – ready for the liquid ingredients.

In a large saucepan combine the butter, sugar and corn syrup, and stir over medium to medium high heat until it comes to a soft ball stage.  If using a candy thermometer, this will be about 235 degrees.  If you don’t have a candy thermometer – no problem – just take a small bit of the cooked mixture and drop into some cold water.  If it forms into a soft ball, then it’s ready.  It’s better to under cook, than over cook, so keep that heat on medium to medium high and not high.  Your mixture can “bubble” but it should not come to a full rolling boil.

Making Christmas Crack 1
Melt butter and sugar. Add light corn syrup. Bring to a gentle boil.

When your liquid ingredients are ready, carefully pour over dry mixture and combine until all is well coated.

Making Christmas Crack 2
Pour liquid ingredients into dry Quaker® cereals mixture (I added some cashews to the cereal).

Transfer your crack onto 2 large baking sheets and let cool.

When completely cool, enjoy!  If by any chance, you have leftover crack – store in airtight containers.

Get creative.  You can add all kinds of things to your crack, like dried cranberries, candy coated chocolate, or nuts.  I love coconut, but the rest of my family doesn’t, so I make some with it and some without.  I actually prefer pecans over almonds, but it’s good with either. Today, I had some extra cashews, so I threw about a cup and a half of them in the mix.  Another variation would be to swap out Quaker® Real Medleys® for the Quaker® Simply Granola Oats, Honey & Raisins,or just use Quaker® Oatmeal Squares.  If you choose this option, add a bag of shredded coconut and a bag of sliced or slivered almonds.

Now, I’ve shared a great recipe with you, so ladies and gentle men, place those bowls back in the cupboard, set down your spoons and put on your thinking caps.  I’m sure that you can come up with some other great ways to enjoy Quaker® all day every day!

What recipe will you use  Quaker® cereals in for the holidays, or year round?
