A personal trainer at your fingertips.

For the most part, as far and I’m concerned – every dog is a good dog.  Sometimes we just need a little help in order to help them reach their full potential.  That’s where the AKC GoodDog Helpline comes into play. With experts at the ready to help guide and direct dog owners in the best ways to help their dog.

Do you have problems or issue with your dog, or could you use some advice on dog training?

Help is as close as your phone.  When you enroll in the AKC GoodDog! Helpline program. you will be given a phone number which will get you the help and guidance that you need for THE REST OF YOUR DOGS LIFETIME! Trained and experienced professionals are on hand Monday through Friday from  9:00 AM to 9:000 PM( EST)  and on Saturdays from Noon to 6:00 PM (EST).You get this for just $79.99 for the LIFETIME  OF YOUR DOG!

Puppies need direction, but that isn’t the only time that you may need answers.  Dogs go through adolescent periods, just like people do, and issues can arise that can baffling to owners. Your once sweet and obedient puppy can turn into a complete mystery dog. (Parents of teenagers…can you relate?) Maybe your thought that chewing had been conquered, only to come home to an anxious full grown dog, who has taken a liking (and not in a good way) the throw rug in the hallway. Anxiety in dogs is a very common problem, but it can be a challenge when you aren’t sure how to deal with it.

Take my sweet little angel!

The Face of an Angel!

What could this adorable little boy possibly do to upset me? This perfect little dog who is so filled with love?  Well, darn it, every time we would leave the house, he would destroy every toy he had within reach.  Yes, they were his toys, but he would rip them to shreds.  I could buy more toys, but that really wasn’t the issue.  All that stuffing can be swallowed, and choked on,  and that is NOT a good thing.

My precious little boy, who never tore up anything when we were home, was destroying every single toy that we left for him in his “pen” whenever we left him…even is we were only gone for 2o or 30 minutes. He chewed up big toys, little toys, cheap toys and not so cheap ones.  When I came home to find his Pillow Pet as slat as a pancake, with it’s innards in a huge pile. I picked up the phone and made the call.

Now, I’m a relatively bright person. I’ve had lots of dogs, so why the heck couldn’t I figure out what to do? Because I’m emotionally involved in the situation and just needed a second “set of eyes and ears” to help me out. After talking for a bit, I was asked how often I put my little darling into THE PEN (cue the music).

~By-the-way, THE PEN ins a large baby play yard. When we would leave the house, we would put Poe inside with a water dish, dog bed and lots of toys.~

QuestionDoes Poe tear up toys when you are home?

Answer: No

Question: Does Poe cause damage to anything else in the house when you are home?

AnswerNo

QuestionDo you use THE PEN when you are home?

Answer: No

Chit chat, more questions and more answers.

Question:  I’m just wondering…why do you feel like you need to put Poe in THE PEN, when you leave the house?  If he’s housebroken, not destroying anything when you’re home, then why do you think he needs to be in THE PEN, when you are gone for an hour or two?

Answer:  HA!  I didn’t really have one.  My husband was just afraid (and my husband isn’t a dog person…or for that matter – an animal person) and he thought that if would be best to have Poe in THE PEN, when he wasn’t being supervised.

The next time we left the house, we simple said – she ya later Poe, we’ll be back in a little while, and off we went.  No PEN, no big deal, we just left the house, and when we came back, what do you think we found?

Our sweet little Gung Poe Wigglebutt curled up on his mat on the back of the sofa with one of his toys tucked under his little chin.  No mess, no toy stuffing in a big pile. Happy Ending:-)

  1. That sounds like an awesome service! I’m not a dog owner myself, but I do work with a rescue who might actually find this really a really helpful service to suggest.

  2. That’s good that there is a hotline for these issues.I wish they had one for cats.I heard crate training can be very difficult.

  3. My dog is registered with the AKC so I am familiar with them and some of the things that they offer. This is one of their best! Your dog is absolutely adorable. So glad that the problem has been solved.

  4. What a great bunch of info. My daughter has a puppy, and I will pass this article on to her. I’m sure she will need it with her dog, who is growing by the day. I love the picture of your puppy in the stroller, by the way!

  5. This could really be beneficial to people with dog issues. So glad I have never had to need one of these but glad they are available if the need ever arises.

  6. I never knew there was a hotline for dog issues and information. Being a dog owner myself, I now have all of your information stored in my phone…. just in case!

  7. I LOVE ANY DOG INFORMATION, AS LONG AS IT IS POSITIVE. I THINK THIS IS GREAT!!!!! IF ALL DOGS HAD TO GO THROUGH THIS TRAINING, MAYBE THERE WOULD BE LESS DOG BITES, I FIND SOME PEOPLE ARE NOT WANTING MY POM NEAR THEM AS A PITBULL BIT THEIR FAMILY MEMBER,,,PEOPLE SHOULD NOT ASSUME ALL DOGS ARE DANGEROUS AND IT GETS UNDER MU SKIN. MY DOG IS MY BEST FRIEND AND I WOULD NOT TRADE HER FOR A HUMAN BEING BEST FRIEND…..

  8. This sounds like a awesome plan, I just wish they had something similar for cat owners. We get just as frustrated with our fur babies, too.

  9. I’ll be sharing this with my neighbor. She fosters dogs, and would love some advice once in a while for her precious pooches.

  10. This sounds like a great service. I find out three dogs to be just like children. Sometimes I have an issue I don’t know how to deal with.

  11. I love this info you have provided. I have a mutt and she is old but I did work with her when she was a pup and is very obidient. Thanks for sharing.

  12. Great idea so many people get rid of pets because they dont know what to do and just maybe if they had such a service it would help them through their problems with their pets.
