4 Inefficiencies Impacting Your Business

According to OnePoll, 26% of the working day is wasted by workers every single day. There are multiple reasons why this could be happening, and identifying the cause of these inefficiencies can help tighten things up, improve standards, and boost productivity.

But what could cause these inefficiencies, and how can you rectify them?

Not Automating Tasks

There are so many ways you can integrate automation into what you do. The exact processes will depend on the work you do and what you need to take care of during the working day. However, if your employees, or indeed you are doing everything by hand, then the chances are you wasting huge chinks of time inputting data, collecting data, and doing menial repetitive tasks that can easily be identified.

It might be that building a custom java payment app that efficiently processes payments from vendors or customers will simplify your day. Automating emails, social media posts, or data collection can free up working hours and allow you to do other things. Whatever takes up your time and needs doing on a regular or even semi-regular basis, get it automated and watch efficiency skyrocket.

Not Training Employees

If employees are wasting time because they are not equipped to handle the work you have given them, they will not only not complete their workload in good time but also not deliver to the standards you need or expect. You can avoid this by working with your employees to see where they’re falling short, what they feel they need help with, and getting them the training and support they need.

Poor Decision Making

Depending on the business’s structure, it might be that there are simply too many people needed to sign off on decisions or that you don’t have a decent decision-making process in place. It’s not always as easy as knowing what is the right decision. You need to be able to make strategic decisions that will benefit the company.

Look at how you address each decision that news needs to be made, how long it takes, and who is involved. Then, look at how you can streamline this. Make a flowchart detailing how each decision will be made and who will make certain decisions. It could be that you have low- or mid-level management that can authorize certain decisions while running more complex ones up the chain of command.

Poor Communication

Communication is an integral part of all businesses. If your communication falls below the standard required, then chances are you will be struggling with how information is relayed, which is a major factor in inefficiency.

You can avoid poor communication by making various changes, including;

  • Taking courses to help team members improve verbal and written communication skills
  • Integrate internal messaging channels to remove the need for copious emails. Slack is an excellent example of his
  • Have regular meetings and invite people to collaborate
  • Ask questions to verify everyone is on the same page
  • Remove silos that impact collaboration

There are many ways your company can become inefficient; these are just some of the more apparent issues you might be facing.

Oh yes, poor communication is a huge downfall. I hate when I shop at a business and there’s no communications if something goes wrong.

  • agree with this.. i have seen it happen at places i worked before as well as at ones i use for service/products.. when even one of this is off, it shows. but when everything is in place – training, automation, communication – it is so smooth and seamless
