THE KEEPER – By Suzanne Woods Fisher / Review & Giveaway Link
About the Book – From the Publisher:
|
Julia Lapp has planned on marrying Paul Fisher since she was a girl.
Now twenty-one, she looks forward to their wedding with giddy anticipation. When Paul tells her he wants to postpone the wedding–again–she knows who is to blame. Perpetual bachelor and spreader of cold feet, Roman Troyer,
the Bee Man.Roamin’ Roman travels through the Amish communities of Ohio and Pennsylvania with his hives full of bees, renting them out to farmers in need of pollinators. He relishes his nomadic life, which keeps him from thinking about all he has lost. He especially enjoys bringing his bees to Stoney Ridge each year. But with Julia on a mission to punish him for inspiring Paul’s cold feet, the Lapp farm is looking decidedly less pleasant. Can Julia secure the future she’s always dreamed of?
Or does God have something else in mind?

Her interest in the Amish began with her grandfather, W.D. Benedict,
who was raised Plain. Suzanne has a great admiration for the Plain people and believes they provide wonderful examples to the world. In both her fiction and non-fiction books, she has an underlying theme: You don’t have to “go Amish” to incorporate many of their principles–simplicity, living with less, appreciating nature, forgiving others more readily– into your life. When Suzanne isn’t writing or bragging to her friends about her first new grandbaby (!),
she is raising puppies for Guide Dogs for the Blind. To Suzanne’s way of thinking, you just can’t take life too seriously when a puppy is tearing through your house with someone’s underwear in its mouth. Suzanne can be found on-line at: www.suzannewoodsfisher.com. |

My Review:
By chapter 2, I felt like I was a part of the Lapp family!
That’s the sign of a good book.
I’m a long time fan of Suzanne Woods Fisher’s writing,
and THE KEEPER has kept me a fan.
Wholesome, entertaining, informative, and makes you feel good!
What more can you ask for?
What is it, that draws us to the Amish?
I know that I love, and wouldn’t want to give up
my modern conveniences…but the sense
of community, and a kinder, more gentle way of life,
has a very strong pull.
THE KEEPER, tells a story that many can relate to.
Family, illness, tragedy, perseverance, and of course, love.
It weaves us in and out of the daily lives of
Amos, Julia, Menno, Sadie, M.K. and Uncle Hank…
just like Fern and Roman, weave their way
into the Lapp’s lives.
I really liked that Woods Fisher, didn’t portray
the English (and our way of life), as needing to be shunned,
and kept as far away as possible.
I give THE KEEPER two thumbs up,
and eight fingers waving high in the air!
I’m all a Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz over it:-)

Oh Libby…I am cracking up over your "all abuzzzzzz" comment! Goodness…we could have used that in publicity! Thanks so much for your glowing review and your two thumbs up! (Yippetty Yahoo!) Grateful for you, dear Libby. Warmly, Suzanne
I thoroughly enjoyed this book too!! I cant wait until the next 2 come out about the Lapps!
I didn't realize until this stop in the tour that Suzanne had family that had been Amish! No wonder she has such a deep affinity for them!
I would love to take a trip just to go back and visit them and learn about their way of life.
Thank you to Suzanne, who writes books about them so I can enjoy learning from afar, as I doubt I will ever get a chance to learn any other way =)
