Coca Cola Float

One of my all time summer favorites is a Coca-Cola® Float.
Coca+Cola+Float

Coke® is probably my all time favorite soft drink.
I prefer to drink the canned, caffeine free variety.
Sit’n in the shade, late in the afternoon, sipping a float
made with Coca-Cola® and premium vanilla ice cream…
that’s my idea of a perfect treat.
I’m not one to muddle the ice cream – nope.
I like to have a chilled mug, right out of the freezer.
The ice cream needs to be rock hard.
A little whipped cream goes on top of the ice cream.
I then pour the icy cold Coke®, gently into the glass.
First I sip the foam off the top.  Then I like to drink the Coke®
as quickly as I can…that way it leaves the ice cream filled with
crunchy icy Coke® crystals,  in the bottom of the mug.
Okay – so I’m a little weird, but I do know what I like!
For me the texture and appearance, is almost as important as the taste.
I also cook with Coke®.  My daughter-in-law taught me
how to make this wonderful Korean dish, called Bolgogi.
In Korea, it’s like American meat loaf…there are a million
different recipes for it. I use lean round steak, cut in this strips.
Strips of green bell peppers, thinly sliced Vidalia onion,
and julienne carrots. Garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil,
sesame seeds, a little sugar, and Coke®.
I honestly can’t tell you how much of each ingredient that I use.
It all depends on how many people I’m serving,
and how many leftovers I want.
I mix  together, the soy sauce sesame oil, sugar and Coke®
After the meat has been cut, I sprinkle it with garlic powder.  I rub it
in really really well.  I set the meat aside, and slice up the vegetables
( green peppers slices wider than the onions – carrot like match sticks)
and add them to the meat.  Toss gently till it’s mixed well.
Then the liquid mixture is poured over the meat and vegetables.
I like to place it all into a ziptop freezer bag and put it into the fridge to marinate.
All afternoon – or even overnight.
When I’m ready to cook it, I take it out of the fridge and throw in some
sesame seeds (I like to toast mine just a bit) and stir. Place a small
amount into a non stick pan.  It doesn’t take long to cook.
I taste, and adjust the seasonings until it tastes and smells just right.
Sometimes this will take two or three tries.
(The more tie’s the better – more for ME:-)
When it is perfect, I dump the rest of the mixture into the pan
and cook away.  This isn’t like a stir fry with the veggies crisp – tender.
Serve over sticky rice – Heaven in a bowl!
This has become a favorite dish of just about everyone in our family.
I’m asked to make it every time I visit with my kids.
There are never any leftovers when I cook at their houses!
Bless her heart – my daughter-in-law made
Bulgogi for about 200 people for one of my
daughters wedding reception.  That’s a LOT of slicing!
My husband prefers that his has only meat and carrots.
I like loads and loads of veggies.  I’ve tried adding fresh broccoli
and mushroom, but it just doesn’t seem quite right, so I will
stir fry them separately and serve them as a side dish.
Of course, I serve refreshing Coca-Cola® when I serve Bulgogi.
Coke® isn’t sickly sweet, like some other sodas, and it goes
perfectly with this salty dish.
What about you?  Do you have a family favorite recipe
that has Coca-Cola® as one of the ingredients?
If so, please feel free to share.
