Libby Says

Complete Idiot's Guide for Facebook VS Facebook for Dummies

I was given the opportunity to do a
side-by-side comparison of the
 Complete Idiot’s Guide to Facebook
and
Facebook For Dummies.

Complete Idiots Guide to Facebook
VS
facebook for dummies

It wasn’t as easy task.  Both are filled with a ton
of information, and each had their own
“pluses and minuses”.

First, for those who like a more lengthy explanations,
the Dummies book may be for you.
Idiot’s Guide seemed to me to be less “wordy”,
or maybe more concise would be a better statement.

Photo illustrations, were just about even,
but were slightly more in number, I believe,
in the Dummies edition, although I did not
actually count them in each book.

Idiot’s Guide was much bigger print, which is a big
plus in my book…and the paper was a
a brighter white than Dummies, which made the print seem
to stand out more, making it easier,
on my old eyes, to read.

Dummies had some additional info, that some may
find useful, but would not effect my choice of one
over the other.

Both editions had icons throughout, but the
Idiot’s Guide were more subtle than the Dummies,
thus not as catching to the eye.  Each series
targeted points in a slightly different way.
Dummies had “Tips” (Target with Arrow in Bullseye),
“Remember” (Hand with index finger pointing up),
and “Warning” (Small lit Bomb).
Idiot’s Guide had “WHOA!” (Barricade),
“Friendly Advice” (Conversation Bubble)
“Definition” (Open Book), “Netiquette” (Computer Monitor),
and “Poke” (Pointing Finger).

Idiot’s Guide had a short glossary, both had
indexes, contents pages were similar, but
Dummies had an additional “contents at a glance”.

Dummies  – 336 pgs. $21.99 US / $29.99 CN
Idiot’s Guide – 282 pgs. $16.95 US / $21.00 CN

My husband preferred Dummies,
as he felt that it contained more info than Idiot’s.
I am leaning towards Idiot’s Guide, for no other reason,
than the actual difference in print size, and clarity.

So folks – it’s a tie, here at Libby’s Library.
Let’s have the series’ back in their own corners,
and come out when we have another comparison.

Now – if Facebook would just stop changing
every time the winds blows in a different direction,
I would be a much happier camper.
I’ll say goodnight, as I go
to make use of all that I’ve learned!

Although I was provided with the books for this review,
these opinions are MY OWN, and I was not
compensated in any other way.
