SEARCHING FOR TINA TURNER / Review & Giveaway

On the surface, Lena Spencer appears to have it all. She and her wealthy husband Randall have two wonderful children, and they live a life of luxury. In reality, however, Lena finds that happiness is elusive. Randall is emotionally distant, her son has developed a drug habit, and her daughter is disgusted by her mother’s “overbearing behavior.” When Randall decides that he’s had enough of marriage counseling, he offers his wife an ultimatum: “Be grateful for all I’ve done for you or leave.” Lena, realizing that money can’t solve her problems and that her husband is no longer the man she married, decides to choose the latter.

My Review:
This book left me with more questions, than with answers.
Not that that’s such a bad thing.
Or is it?  I’m not really sure at all.

“What’s Love Got To Do With It?”
That’s Tina’s famous question.
For me, love has everything to do with it.

I don’t particularly care for change, unless it is
easily seen as for the better…and even then it’s
sometimes a bitter pill to swallow.
Our lives change…our kids get older, our bodies get
droopier, our minds (hopefully) grow… and
we see things differently.

I have always tried to embrase the philosophy of
“make it enough”.
(See reading guide questions on the Hachette Group page)
I’ve tried to be grateful for all my blessings.

I’ve been so very fortunate, in that my marriage
hasn’t gone stale.
My children and I have gone full circle…
from my their hanging on my every word, to their growing
independence, and the emergence of their own ideas
(and with the absolutely knowledge that they knew
oh so much more, that I ever would or could),
to our being the best of friends with
true love and respect for one another.

In Searching For Tina Turner, Lena did what she felt she had to do,
and did it with all her heart.
She struggled, and came out triumphant.
Regrets…she had a few, but chose to do it her way.

I became so engrossed with the characters…it was
all I could do, to restrain myself from slapping the pages.
I wanted Camille and Kendrick, to respect their mother.
I wanted Randall to love and truly appreciate his wife.
I wanted Lena to find happiness, but without such drastic measures.

Ain’t life grand?

For me, Searching for Tina Turner was a cunundrum,
but I’m glad that I read it.

I think everyone is searching for something or someone, and in reality, many have already found it, but they don't always know it. Does that make sense? I hope so.
