What’s It Like to Work While Traveling?
Have you ever wondered what it’s like to travel while you work? A lot of people separate their travels and their work. They like to take vacations every now and then, but then they return home to their regular job and work regular hours. But what if you could travel and work at the same time? Or even better, what if traveling was a part of your job description? It might sound too good to be true, but you’d be surprised at how many people do this–and also how you could potentially do this as well
What kind of jobs travel for work?
There are a number of them. From high-paying travel nurse jobs to traveling for business meetings and working with overseas clients, there are a couple of job positions that typically require a lot of traveling.
However, there are also some jobs that are built around traveling. For example, working as a pilot or an air host or hostess typically means that you’ll be traveling a lot and spending most of your time overseas. You’ll get breaks every now and then so that you can stay home, but most of these jobs are built for people that love to travel and explore the world.
Lastly, we can’t forget about self-employed endeavors like blogging, content creation, and so on. These are jobs that will typically require you to make something out of your travels, be it recording your adventures and making videos about them, or advertising your services as a traveling specialist.
What’s the pay like for work while traveling?
Pay is often a lot higher because it needs to cover things like travel costs. However, this is really going to depend on who you’re working for, or who your customers are. If your main audience is from a country such as the UK or America, then you’ll probably make quite a lot of money because your audience is, on average, a lot wealthier. However, if you’re working for a company in a country that has a lower average minimum wage, then expect to get paid less.
Is it hard to maintain a work-life balance?
The idea of traveling for work can sound scary to many. There are a number of reasons for this. Some people think they might get homesick often, others might struggle with jet lag and fatigue when switching time zones. There are also people that don’t like the idea of an unpredictable schedule, and some might be concerned about loneliness because they’re always traveling by themselves.
At the end of the day, getting a job in a familiar location is always best for comfort and convenience. However, it’s never a bad idea to explore the world a bit while you work, which is why a lot of people are interested in remote job positions. But with that said, there are ups and downs to a life of traveling for work, so make sure you do a bit of research and consider what your needs and preferences are before you dive in.
This is really great information! I have had to work (well manage my writing business) while on the road a lot! From being homeless to living in a motorhome for a bit, to all of the in between, working on the road is sometimes a little challenging. Your tips are useful!
I’ve had to do this a few times. I had posts due so I just took a break in the day and was able to finish within 2 hours.
I used to do a lot of travel for work. While it is fun it looks much more glamorous than it actually is.
I’ve had to work while traveling before and it is not fun. It didn’t take long though, thankfully.
I like that I can write while I travel. I get the best work done while on a train ride.
I’ve blogged while on a work trip with my husband. I was thankful that I could work from anywhere. I’m currently working a full-time job and do my blog at night.
It’s eye-opening to see the wide range of possibilities for those who wish to combine work and travel.
Ah, it makes sense that you’d make more because the audience is wealthier. I don’t really want to travel while working, unless it would be as a content writer. That would be dreamy.
I try to squeeze in some work when we travel. It is nice to know that I can be making money on the road! It helps pay for our travels.
It sure can be stressful but as with anything, balance is key with these things
I somehow never end up working while traveling even when I want to.. I end up inevitably finding someone or the other to chat with 🙂
I always wanted a job I can bring anywhere, especially while traveling.
