7 Things That You Need In Your Bedroom
If you have recently moved into a new home or if you are redoing your bedroom, then you will want to make sure that you have everything that you need. You might already own some of these things, but you might have forgotten others. Here are things that you need in your bedroom.
Rug
A good rug is a wondrous thing. It feels great on your feet in the morning and looks great in the room. It doesn’t necessarily need to be very big, but it should complement the room. This might mean that its color shares the same tone as the paint or wallpaper on the walls or something like that. You are going to want to get a rug that is as soft as possible as the whole point of is to be nice and comfy on your feet. You should make sure that you measure the space correctly before buying as you don’t want the rug to be too big. Rugs are also great in winter if you have hardwood floors. This is because you can lose a lot of heat through the floor and a rug can help prevent that.
Bed
The bed is the focal point and most important thing in any bedroom. You spend so much of your life sleeping, that you should invest in a decent bed. If your current bed is creaky or feeling a bit shabby, then it may be time to get a new one. There are plenty of options when it comes to what kind of bed to purchase, but you likely want to make sure it goes with your other furniture. For example, while metal bed frames are cheap they won’t look great alongside your wooden furniture. You also have the option of getting an ottoman bed. These are especially great because they easily lift up and allow you to make full use of under bed storage. This is wonderful news for people who struggle with storage and space in their home. Make sure that your bed has space either side to get out of as well and that is centred nicely in the room.
Mattress
On top of your bed, you are going to need a mattress. There are several different types of mattress, and different ones will appeal to different people. You might like a memory foam mattress that molds to your shape each night. Or you might prefer a spring coil mattress that is nice and soft to lay on. Or you might want a hybrid which is a combination of both of them. Whichever you choose, make sure that you tried out the mattress beforehand as you don’t want to order something online that you don’t find comfortable. Mattresses need replacing every 9-years or so anyway, so this might a be good time to get a new one.
Mattress Protector & Mattress Topper
On top of your mattress, you might want to invest in getting mattress protector and mattress topper. Both of these serve very different functions but are great additions to your mattress. A mattress protector is like an extra sheet that covers the mattress but is primarily there to protect it. This means that spills, sweat, and other things won’t damage the mattress as easily. A mattress topper, on the other hand, is like an extra bit of mattress that you put on top of your mattress. They are generally a lot cheaper than a mattress, and they extend a mattresses life by taking the strain or adding a layer of cushioning or memory foam to your current mattress. A mattress topper might not be needed for a lot of mattresses, but it can be a nice addition.
Bed sheets
Every bed needs bed sheets. You will want several bed sheets so that you don’t always need to use the same ones. You will prefer different colors and designs in different months or different moods. Your bedsheets will cover your mattress, duvet, and pillows and they will protect them from being damaged or stained. You should try to get bedsheets that compliment your room including trying to match your curtains or wall color. You will want different sized bed sheets depending on the size of your bed. For example, you may want split king bed sheets for a king-sized bed. Make sure that you check the size of your bed and mattress before you commit to buying bed sheets as queen size bed must have queen bed sheets on them
Pillows and Duvet
Your bed will also need pillows and a duvet, for your cooking area you should invest in kitchen rugs too. These will lay on top of the bed and again be different for different people. Some people enjoy really soft pillows; while others prefer harder ones. You can even get pillows that are memory foam and will mold to your shape over the night. In terms of a duvet, you will want a different number of togs (essentially how warm they are) depending on how warm or cold it is. Make sure you don’t just have a winter duvet, or you will be very warm in the summer months.
Pillow Covers & Protector
As well as pillows you will need to have pillow covers and protectors. Both of these will work to make sure that your pillows last longer and are free from stains and damage. They both slide over your pillow with the pillow protector underneath the cover. The protector can’t normally be seen, but it can add some extra comfort to the pillow while protecting it at the same time. You will normally have pillow covers that match the rest of your bedding, and they will generally come in a pack. However, sometimes you might have more than the standard two pillows. In cases like this, you will want to supplement the bottom pillow with a different, but complementary, pillow cover. This way you can still use your bedding and not have some of your pillows look like they shouldn’t be there.
I recently got all new linens and bedding. I’d love to have a new bed, mattress, etc. There are so many nice ones now. I don’t have a rug now, I had a white one, I thought it would be “safe” for the bedroom, not that hard to keep nice, but it was a real pain! I would have it taken out to be cleaned, but it just wasn’t practical. A nice rug in a color not too hard to keep up is a good addition to have a comfy and plush look.
Yup, we have all of these. I love my king size mattress. I need personal space!
I have just recently used pillow protectors and I agree that they really do extend the life of your pillows.
My bedroom needs a new look. I thing that a new rug is the key.
I agree with these as well. I actually have all of them, and I love them all.
The perfect basics for building a room. Makes sense to have the right pieces for a restful room.
I loved your list! I need to buy some pillow covers! I threw mine away and haven’t replaced them.
Love it! Your suggestion about having a good rug in the bedroom is spot on. It’s not just a decor element but also adds comfort to those chilly mornings. Plus, the tip about the rug complementing the room’s color scheme is a valuable one.
So timely for me since I am decorating my bedroom! Thank you for these ideas.
My bedroom is one of the most important rooms in the house for me so I love to splurge on a good mattress and fine, high-thread cotton sheets. it makes getting into be a real pleasure.
We have all of these except for the mattress topper. We did have one before but got rid of it. I may have to get one again.
I think I’ve got all of these covered except the mattress topper. I think those can come in useful depending on the mattress you opt for. I wouldn’t be without a mattress protector those are great we have them on mine and the kid’s beds.
I keep mattress protectors on every bed. I have 4 grandchildren and 3 of them are little. Better safe than sorry when it comes to mattress protection. 🙂
I need to get new bedding. Right now I use a sheet over a mattress protector. Then I have a weighted blanket and lightweight fuzzy blanket I use. Then in the winter months I add a heated electric throw in between my weighted blanket and fuzzy one.
Thanks for sharing such an interesting post, I really enjoyed it. I will definitely keep these in mind
