Gift Giving & Gift Ideas and Buying Guides

Ways To Treat Yourself When You Need A Boost

You work hard every day. At the end of the day, and especially when the weekend arrives, you are tired. Instead of focusing on those feelings, flip your script. Do this by finding ways to recognize your hard work and reward your efforts. There are so many options when it comes to treating yourself. Consider this your official approval to start taking better care of the wonderful person you see in the mirror.

Ways To Treat Yourself When You Need A Boost

Gifts for Yourself

Finding the perfect gift for someone is always dependent upon their unique personality. Luckily for you, you can find exactly what you want with ease! Sometimes a little material item is just the boost you need when you are craving a reward.

  • Try a cigar from a selection of some people’s favorite cigars. Opting for a cigar means you are deciding to sit for a while. Enjoying a cigar requires an investment of time to partake in its leisurely experience.
  • Find a smooth drink to sip on while appreciating the aforementioned cigar. Select a high-quality beverage such as bourbon, single malt whiskey, or port. These will be satisfying in depth and flavor while not overpowering the cigar.
  • A weighted blanket makes a wonderful gift. They are known for their myriad benefits, which include providing a sense of secure comfort and the ability to calm people. You can choose from a variety of weights, materials, and colors to suit your tastes.

Experiences to Enjoy

Occasionally, the best gift can be something you do for yourself. Any experience you choose should be something you have always wanted to try or that will make you happy for having participated in it.

  • A spa day may be the ultimate luxury for you. When you book your appointment, look for an all-inclusive package or an ala carte option so you can select the services you want. Go alone or ask a favorite person in your life and spend the day together. Pick a spa with a café on site to truly immerse yourself in the full-day experience.
  • Do something adventurous. Is there something that you have always wanted to do? Perhaps you secretly long to skydive or ride in a hot air balloon over wine country. Do something that will make you happy without added stress.
  • Learn a new skill to expand your mind. Try a gourmet cooking class from a top-rated chef. Or learn to knit a blanket if that is on your bucket list of goals. Acquiring another skill set should be enjoyable and not a task.

Focus on the Intangible

When you think of “treating yourself,” you probably conjure images that contain material items or experiences. While those are perfectly enjoyable, there are other ways to honor your needs.

  • SleepThe notion of napping seems indulgent to many. If you are one of those people, it is time to shed that antiquated judgment. Napping on the couch with a fresh breeze blowing through the windows is a refreshing experience. Grab some plush blankets, your favorite pillow, and your furry friends. Allow yourself the time to just sleep and accept the gift without thinking about your ever-present to-do list.
  • OutsourceWorking 40+ hours per week, dealing with a commute, and caring for your family may leave little time left to spend with your family – let alone care for you. When this happens, give yourself a pass to pay for a service at home. Hire a cleaning service or a yard maintenance worker to accomplish the work you are usually responsible for at home. This way, you can take time for yourself or be with the ones you love.
  • Say NoSelf-care comes in many forms, including how you handle your responses to others. When people keep coming to you with requests leaving you more stressed than ever, know that it is ok to decline others’ solicitations of your time and services.

There is an art to saying no. You do not need to give a litany of excuses or reasons for your lack of availability. Simply thank them for thinking of you for this activity, tell them you are unavailable and invite them to ask again in the future. Unless, of course, you are not interested. In which case, tactfully share that you are not. You will feel better about honoring your time.
