Injecting Individuality Into Your Style
Fashion can be a funny thing. We spend so much time looking at different outfits, turning to style stars for inspiration, and admiring the looks of others, that it can all get a bit overwhelming. When once, you would simply pick out something to wear that you really loved, now, that’s not always enough. You can constantly second-guess your outfit choices, and it starts to knock your self-confidence after a while. But, the key is, to work with your own individuality so that you’re not too put off by the fashions around you. When you’re happy with what you’re wearing, outside influence won’t shake your style.
Have A Clear Out
The first thing you need to do as a part of this is have a huge wardrobe clear out. It’s always the best way to start because you’re going to want to make sure that you’re only working with pieces that you truly love and that fit with your signature style. And if you were to look in your closet right now, you’d probably find a lot of pieces that just aren’t really you. So, right now, to start off this style journey, you’re going to want to throw out or give away any pieces that you don’t really wear. That way, you’ll be love with the pieces that you love the most.
Identify Patterns
Now, using the items that you have left, and keeping some of your favorite outfits in mind, you’re going to want to start to identify some dress patterns of yours. You need to work out what cuts, shapes, and styles that you wear the most and that you feel confident in. Because these are the pieces that you need more of. Even if you feel like you would love to wear other styles, if they’re not “you”, then forget that thought and stick to what you know.
Build Up Your Basics
Then, you’re going to want to start building up your basics. The styles that you love the most, buy more of them. Stick to your staples and just multiply them. When you stick to those cuts, shapes, and pieces that you really love, your individuality will start to really come through in your style.
Shop Somewhere New
If you find that you get tempted to buy the same kind of pieces, those that you didn’t really love, when you shop in the same places, then find somewhere new to shop. Look at different online clothing boutiques and independent stores. By doing this, you should be able to add some variety into your wardrobe and show off your own personal style.
Go Careful With Inspiration
Going forwards, you’re going to really want to be careful when you’re hunting for inspiration – or just when you see what others are wearing. It’s so tempting to take on trends, and try out styles that look great on others. But when they’re not very “you”, you’ll find yourself on that slippery slope. So stick to what you know!
