New Year’s Resolution? How about aim…goal? Something different!
New Year’s Resolution? How about aim…goal? Something different!
My Friend Joni, who is a mental health therapist, doesn’t like the word resolution and New Year said in the same sentence. Instead, she has recommended the word goal. Since the day she told everyone, I’ve been thinking about New Years and why no one seems to be able to keep resolutions and maybe the word does have something to do with it.
Now, it is January and I am making some changes that I feel are important, so I’ve decided to insert a new word. My word is aim. I’m aiming at making some positive changes! At the risk of suffering the advice of backseat directors, I’m going to let everyone in on some of them.
My Goals
- Loose 50 lbs. Ha! There it is… I’ve said it!
- Relax and enjoy life more
- Clean all closets and resting places where junk has accumulated in my house
- Make those repairs to my home, which have been staring at me for some time
- Reserve time for creating music and art
RELAX AND ENJOY LIFE MORE-To be honest, I started this a few months ago and here is one simple thing that works like a charm for me…. Enjoying Sunset Time! (No I’m not a sunrise kinda gal. Sorry) Step 1-We all carry a digital camera around with us. Just turn the sound off, don’t answer the phone attached to the camera and stop to take a picture. It doesn’t have to be a broad sweeping landscape, so you don’t have to be sitting on the side of a hill or standing by a lake, if you are, all the better. If you don’t have that luxury, use my trick. When I just have a small slice of sky I zoom in. Step 2-If you are feeling anxious, annoyed, irritated, infuriated, or just uneasy. Take out that camera…okay phone, and take a glimpse at the beauty you were able to capture. Here is an example:
Why take a picture, why not just enjoy the sunset? Well, you can just look if you want…nothing wrong with that, but by taking the shot, the picture can bring back that enjoyed moment. To be honest, my sunset pictures began as an endeavor to build my own resource library for paintings. After awhile however, I noticed a secondary benefit from the time spent walking in the late afternoon and stopping to enjoy the sunset. It is not only relaxing, but inspiring also. If you try it, I’m sure you will find it an easy way to chill! I am continuing to take my pics. I also plan to share them on the blog each week.
If you’re wondering about aims 1, 3, 4, & 5; I’ll address them later. Let me just see how well I aim.
I would also like to lose weight, and relax and enjoy life more.
