Reading Horizons Review

I was elated with the chance to receive a Intensive Phonics Instructor Materials from Reading Horizons.

I had high hopes after researching the company, but I never dreamed that the programs would be so fabulous.  When they say intensive, they mean INTENSIVE...but this does not mean difficult.  The  Teacher Manuals take you step by step, providing clear instructions on what to do, and how to do it.  I feel completely competent in using the materials with children from 4 and up.

The materials that I received, where shrink wrapped and came in a really nice sturdy tote bag.

I got 2 Teacher’s Manuals, a S0und Essentials Student Manual, Reverse Leaning Cards, 14 Posters, and Enrichment CD, and a set of  4 Little Books.

Besides the quality of the program and the ease of use, this is fantastic for those who are teaching multiple children.  The instruction materials are reusable and can be copied for you own personal use.  This will save a lot of money in the long run.

The Reverse Listening Cards, shown below, are printed on a nice weight card stock, so they will handle a lot of wear and tear.

The Reading Horizons program (intensive, explicit, systematic phonics), has a long business history, having provided instruction manuals for over 20 years.  Reading Horizons offers programs for ages 4-9, for 10-adult, and for ESL.

Head on over to Reading Horizons and take a look around.  I’m sure that you will be impressed.

  • The program is good but the reading library stories are biased. For example, they include a story about FW de Klerk and white wash his support of apartheid then they don’t even have a separate story for Nelson Mandela. They treat Nelson Mandela as secondary to de Klerk.
The “story” on Donald Trump is even worse. So while I use the program, I use more balanced readings with my students.
