The Top Ways To Keep Your Home Cooler During The Hotter Months In Australia

It seems to be getting hotter with every year that goes by and the indoor temperatures for Australian properties have literally gone through the roof. Your home is your castle as many people keep telling us, so it is important to make sure that you are comfortable there because it is where you spend the vast majority of your time. Today’s the day when you need to take steps to cool everything down.

One of the first things you need to invest in is quality blinds and curtains in Melbourne because not only will these be able to transform the look of any room from both the inside and the outside, they also have the ability to keep the room cooler for longer. If the sun is shining in through your windows and doors then closing the blinds and shutting the curtains is an instant way to reduce the temperature.

This is one way to keep your home cooler during the hotter months here in Australia and the following are some others that you might want to consider.

  1. Open up your windows – This might seem obvious but you would be surprised at the number of Australians who forget to do this very thing. It is true to say that temperatures do drop during the evening time and through the night, so it makes sense to let this cool air come into your home.
  2. Close blinds & curtains – It was mentioned briefly before and it needs to be mentioned again. Investing in quality blinds and curtains is one surefire way to block out the heat of the sun and this means that your air conditioner doesn’t have to work as hard to keep the room cooler.
  3. Invest in proper insulation – Many Australian homes are not properly insulated and especially so if they are a couple of decades old. The right kind of insulation can help to seal your home up to keep the heat in the winter time and also keep your home cooler during the warm summer months.

Another suggestion that you will probably really like is start doing a lot of your cooking outside and this is the perfect opportunity to fire up the barbecue. It will also pay you to invest in some awning that would shield the windows further from direct sunlight and thus reduce the internal temperature.

  • Very interesting post, thank you so much for sharing. I have never been to Australia but I do know it can get pretty hot. It gets really hot where I live too, and shutting the blinds/curtains really does help keep it cooler.
