Winter to Spring Home Checklist: 4 Things You Need To Check
Now that winter is making way for spring and summer, it’s a great time to take stock of your home and look at how you can keep it in the best condition for the changing season. A well-maintained home not only ensures your comfort but also protects your investment.
Winter can bring with it a lot of harsh weather that can impact your home and cause damage if these issues go unnoticed or unresolved.
The last thing you want is to come across major problems because you neglected to give your home a thorough checking over to ensure it’s escaped the winter unharmed. Remember, neglecting home maintenance can lead to costly repairs and potential safety hazards. This goes for both the interiors and exterior too.
So, with this in mind, what do you need to focus on when it comes to inspecting your home post-winter and getting it ready for the warmer days? Don’t worry; home inspections are not as daunting as they may seem. With a little guidance, you can easily identify and address potential issues, ensuring your home is in top shape.
Winter to Spring Home Checklist: 4 Things You Need To Check
Roof Inspections
You should inspect your roof periodically throughout the year for any signs of damage or build-up in your gutters, initiating roof damage. You can also identify signs of roof problems inside your home by pinpointing if there are any additional drafts or air leaks upstairs or if you’re experiencing increased energy bills or dampness on walls. You can carry out a visual inspection from the ground or via climbing inside the attic space, or you can call on a local roofing company to conduct a more in-depth check to ensure everything is as it should be.
AC Repairs
Your AC is in constant use throughout the year to help you regulate the temperature in your home. As the days become warmer and you switch from heating to cooling, now is the perfect time to regret a service and ensure your system is working as it needs to be and has not sustained any damage or succumbed to wear and tear over the winter. Signs your AC might not be in optimal condition include:
- Increased energy bills.
- New or different sounds.
- Decreased output and performance.
- Failure to operate at times. Get
An HVAC repair company will check out your system and ensure nothing untoward is happening.
Gutters and Windows
Your gutters and your windows both do a similar job of protecting your home. Your gutters direct any water away from your home, ensuring it runs to a safe space and doesn’t cause damp issues. Your windows provide insulation to your home and add light to the interior.
Both need to be checked at least twice yearly for any damage they might sustain. Your gutters can become clogged with debris that has been blown off the roof or from the roof itself, as well as local wildlife, and your windows can experience breaks in the seal or cracks in the glass, rendering them less effective than they need to be. Check them over, identify the cause of concerns, and then rectify the issues before they become worse and cause more damage.
Spring Clean
More people spend more time indoors over the water than any other season, so now that it’s over, it’s the perfect time to carry out that deep cleaning of your home and wash away the winter. How you deep clean your house is entirely up to you, and what needs cleaning is up to you, but making a checklist of all the areas of your home that need some TLC can give you a place to start. The most overlooked areas in the house for cleaning are doorknobs, handles, light switches, kickboards, under appliances, and soft furnishings.
These are certainly things to check on. My husband just cleaned out our gutters today.
Checking the roof for any signs of damage, ensuring the AC is working efficiently, and inspecting gutters and windows are all crucial steps to maintain the integrity of the home.

I just did a tune up on my air conditioner on Tuesday. It was freezing up on occasion and I knew it really needed to be cleaned. He added Freon too. Hopefully, this makes it run more efficiently too.
