There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you take a trip to the spa. You come out feeling relaxed, rejuvenated, and refreshed. If you could treat yourself to such an experience more often, life would be a lot easier. Unfortunately, spa services aren’t cheap which limits the times you can pamper yourself. What most people don’t realize, however, is that you can create a spa-like experience in your very own home.
Imagine being able to go home after a long day at work, enter a room, and treat yourself to things that make you feel good from the inside out? You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg either.
Check out this list of essentials you’ll need to create an at-home spa experience.
An Isolated Room or Area
When you’re at a spa, the limited distractions and quiet can put your mind at ease. In order for this to happen in the home, you’ll need to select a room or area in your place that’s isolated from everything else. It, at the very least, needs to be a space where you can isolate yourself from the distractions around the house (meaning a soundproof room or room with a door that can be closed when you’re relaxing).
The moment you step into a spa you smell the aroma of essential oils and candles. You may not be aware of this, but scents can have a powerful impact on your emotional well-being. Just as the smell of a home-cooked meal would excite you and rev up your appetite, the smells of vanilla, lavender, and other essential oils can put your mind at ease and calm the body. Choose scents that make you feel most at ease.
Music is another powerful therapeutic tool that can be used to calm the body and mind. Create a playlist of songs that you can listen to while relaxing. While you can choose any music you’d like, it is often best to choose instrumentals, soundscapes, jazz, or songs of inspiration that put you in a positive mindset.
Drinks and Snacks
Who doesn’t enjoy the cucumber water and refreshments offered at a spa? Not only do they taste great, but they are also all designed to enhance the mind and body. You don’t have to go overboard with this, but having your own infused waters and healthy refreshments take your level of peace and relaxation to a whole new level.
Massage Oils or Lotion
If you’re going to give yourself a good rub down (or have your significant other do it for you) you’re going to want to have some massage oils on hand. Massage lotion and oils are often a mixture of essential oils packed with therapeutic benefits. The oils help to moisturize the skin and treat or reduce symptoms of skin conditions while the fragrances from the oil help to put you at ease.
What’s cozier than a warm robe or hot towels when you’re at the spa? You’ll want to make sure that you have each of these on hand for increased comfort. If you don’t have the money to invest in a towel warmer, you can always purchase hand towels and run them through hot water (and ring them out) prior to your spa session so they’re warm when you’re ready to use them.
At-Home Facial Products
If you’ve ever had a facial at the spa you know how relaxing and rejuvenating it can be. You can create this same experience at home. You could purchase facial masks, topical creams, and other skin care solutions from the store, or, if you want to go a more natural route, you can make your own using natural ingredients.
There’s nothing like a nice warm bath to relax your muscles, ease pain, remove tension, and boost your mood. To add on to your at-home spa experience, be sure to purchase some bath salts and/or oils to enhance the therapeutic benefits of taking a bath.
Creating a spa-like experience at home is not as complicated or expensive as you might think. As long as you have a designated area and all the supplies listed above, you can relieve stress, boost your mood, relax, or simply pamper yourself whenever you’d like.
