How to Create a Clutter-Free Craft Room

Love crafting? Want to turn your spare room into the perfect craft space but don’t know where to start or how to keep the clutter at bay? You’ve come to the right place…

  1. Let Go of Your Craft Hoard

We’ve all been there: you bought that extra fabric, convinced you were going to make 12 throw pillows for the holidays. That was three Christmases ago. It’s time to face the harsh reality—some of your crafting supplies aren’t going to be used. Ever.

The first step to creating a clutter-free craft room is to declutter. I know, I know—it’s hard to let go of that yarn you might need for a project someday. But, like that pair of jeans in the back of your closet that hasn’t seen the light of day in years, it’s time to toss or donate the supplies that are collecting dust. Be ruthless. If you haven’t touched it in the past year (or two… or five), it’s probably time to say goodbye.

  1. Make Friends with Sewing Cabinets

When it comes to storage, not all furniture is created equal. Enter the sewing cabinet, the superhero of the craft world. These cabinets are like Mary Poppins’ bag but for crafters. You can stash your sewing machine, thread, needles, fabric, and all those random bits and bobs that are currently scattered across your floor. Plus, a sewing cabinet often comes with handy compartments and drawers, so you can keep things organized without feeling like you’ve just shoved everything into a dark corner.

The best part? When you’re done, you can close the cabinet doors and pretend you’ve got it all together. No one needs to know what’s inside. Out of sight, out of mind.

  1. Bins, Baskets, and Boxes (Oh My!) Man and Woman in Storage Solutions Section of a Store / How to Create a Clutter-Free Craft Room

If you’ve ever found yourself digging through piles of fabric, ribbon, and glitter looking for that one elusive button in your home, you need a better system. Bins, baskets, and boxes are your new best friends. And no, this doesn’t mean shoving everything into a random container and calling it a day—organization is key.

Label those bins! Whether it’s fabric scraps, paintbrushes, or googly eyes (because what craft room doesn’t have a stash of those?), make sure you know exactly what’s where. There’s nothing worse than knowing you have what you need but having no clue where it’s hiding.

And if you want to make it fancy, get matching baskets and bins. Sure, it’s superficial, but a coordinated look goes a long way in making your craft room feel more like a creative haven and less like a glorified storage closet.

  1. Pegboards are the Perfect Visual Organizer

Who knew something from your dad’s garage could be so stylish? Pegboards are the ideal solution for keeping your most-used supplies within arm’s reach, and they even make your craft room look like you know what you’re doing. Hang up scissors, rulers, spools of thread, or whatever tools you’re always losing in the chaos. Plus, it’s customizable, so you can rearrange as needed when your crafting obsession shifts from scrapbooking to DIY jewelry making.

A pegboard is perfect for those who like their creativity to be as visual as possible. Plus, you’ll feel like you’re working in a cute little craft shop every time you reach for something.
