Let That Sink In: 7 Creative Home Sink Ideas

Sink basins are an important fixture in our homes that some of us don’t give a second thought to. Most homes contain at least two sinks – a kitchen sink and a bathroom sink. This guide offers a few sink ideas to consider during your next renovation.

Splash out on a natural stone sink

Sink basins can be built from natural stone like marble and granite. Such sinks are not cheap and require a lot of maintenance, but can considerably increase the value of your kitchen or bathroom by adding an air of luxury. Natural stone is porous by nature and so has to be sealed first. You can explore natural stone sinks online.

Stand out with a copper sink

Metal sinks are renowned for being very hygienic. While most people choose stainless steel for its neutral appearance, copper has similar antimicrobial properties and can provide more of a statement. The golden appearance of copper is best contrasted with neutral colored countertops and cabinets. This post at Homedit delves more into the pros and cons of a copper sink.

Install a pull-down tap in the kitchen

A pull-down tap is useful for getting into the corners of your sink when cleaning it. Using a pull-down tap, you can also more easily wash the inside of pots and glasses. Pull-down taps are typically made from stainless steel, but can be built from other materials too like copper. A plumbing company such as Green Group Plumbing can install this tap for you.

Add a waterfall tap in the bathroom

A waterfall tap can make for a pretty feature on a bathroom sink basin. Instead of pouring out the end of a spout, waterfall taps allow water to trickle out in a waterfall fashion. You can buy waterfall mixer taps in an array of different styles to match different types of sink.

Add countertop space with a kitchen sink cover

Kitchen sink covers are lids that fit over the top of your sink. In a small kitchen, kitchen sink covers can be very useful as they can open up extra countertop space for food prep work. Just be wary that if you need to use the sink, you’ll have to remove this cover to access it.

Consider an all-in-one toilet-and-sink

All-in-one toilet-and sinks are a creative space-saving option in small bathrooms. Rather than having a separate sink and toilet, the sink is simply fitted into the toilet cistern. Water used for washing hands is recycled and used for toilet flushing. This helps to also reduce your water bill. Check out these toilets if you’re thinking of building a tiny en-suite or understairs bathroom.

Weigh up the pros of a double sink

Double sinks can be useful in some kitchens. By having two separate basins, you can leave kitchenware to soak in one sink while rinsing off plates or draining saucepans in the other. Double sinks do take up a lot of countertop space and so may not be practical in a small kitchen. However, if you’ve got plenty of countertop space, you may not mind sacrificing some of it for a double sink.

  • These are fantastic ideas to improve your sink! I personally love pull-down taps and would definitely install one. They make doing dishes so much easier and less messy since the water isn’t splashing everywhere.
