Top Tips for Kitchen Pantry Organization

A well stocked and well organized pantry can make you feel in control. It will save you time, it will save you money and you will minimize food waste if your pantry is organized. Let’s face it, it’s easy to throw the tins and the packets into the cupboard and shut the door, but often it’s easier to keep a tidy pantry than it is to let it build up.

Whether you’re trying to be a chef in the kitchen and you want to locate all of your things, or you just don’t want to have to deal with having to throw away food that you keep buying because you haven’t checked to see what you’ve got, you need these top tips for kitchen pantry organization that will keep you looking great.

Store things together that make sense.

You need to have zones for similar items, so if you’ve got pasta on one shelf, it makes sense to add lentils and other grains like rice. If you have spices on another shelf, then that can be the area where you also keep things like gravy or stock powders. Another shelf can be used for baking items and another for things like snacks and biscuits. When you keep the frequent use items at eye level and the low use items on lower or top shelves, you’ll be able to use things and rotate things easily in your pantry, keeping things organized and together.

Don’t forget to label your containers.

Sticker labels can make all the difference when it comes to organizing your kitchen pantry. Decanting dried goods into clear airtight containers is one thing, but you need to have a sticker on the front to tell you what it is. For example, if you have corn flour, plain flour and all-purpose flour, as well as self raising flour or separate bread flour, you need to have stickers to differentiate. Which is which? Otherwise you’re never going to get your recipes right ever again.

Use every bit of space you can.

From the back of the door as an extra storage space to the under the shelf space for rolls of paper towels, you need to make sure that you are using every bit of space because pantry space is prime kitchen real estate. On the back of the door, you can hang aprons, shopping bags, and even the brim that you use for the kitchen under the shelves. You can hang lights and you can even hang paper towels and hooks for your utensils.

Invest in the right accessories.

If you have a pantry that really does utilize vertical space, then you need to get a step ladder so that you can reach it all. You can use lazy Susans for spices and tiered shelf organizers for cans and turntables for easy access to sources. There are companies out there that can even build these in for you. Wire shelf helpers for second tiers of storage can help, and rotating units for corner cabinets can make all the difference. As long as you have a pantry that’s well organized, you’ll always be able to find what you need.

  • Good ideas to stay organized. I try to check my pantry before grocery shopping. I hate when I buy something that I already have.
