Our 2015 Summer Garden
Our 2015 Summer Garden
This year I decided to plant primarily in pots. For the most part it’s worked out pretty well. So much less weeding! I think the biggest drawback is that I didn’t put enough holes in the pots, for proper drainage. We’ve had a considerable amount of rain in the last 3 or 4 weeks. Sometimes it has come down so hard, that I was afraid that we would all float away. This is causing some real problems with my tomatoes, as they burst before ripening, and it completely killed my squash (after these photos were taken – you can see their pretty yellow blossoms, above). The cucumbers are prolific as are the green, orange and red bell peppers, as are the Texas sweet onions. I’m not sure how my mini eggplant will fare.
My herbs are doing very well, as are many of the flowers. We have basil, dill, rosemary and 3 different kinds of mint. Always, I planted marigolds, vinca and zinnas. I got a great sale on freesia and dahlia bulbs. I’m going to go ahead and plant them, even though its really late to be getting them started. We shall see how that goes.
Oh, I found stevia at a local garden center. I have no idea how to “process” it, but I’ll look into that sometime soon. I also found one lavender plant. I hope that it will take off and do well. My newest addition, which I got today, is a Japanese Maple. As soon as I’ve planted it, I’ll update with a photo.
As I finish up this post – the rain is coming down again. It’s pouring with lightening and thunder booming away. The dogs are crouched under my desk and Gabe is shaking almost uncontrollably. Keep you fingers crossed for my pour garden beds. I don’t know how much more of a beating they can take!
Beautiful flowers! Your garden is lovely!
That’s a beautiful garden! Pots are a lot easier to take care of than garden’s…because of the no weeding (like you said). I prefer pots for flowers, as I hate gardening…but love the colours! For drainage, I put rocks at the bottom of the pots…under the soil… to give proper drainage!!!
I love plants, they just give life to any spot of your home!
Your garden choices are beautiful… But the real reason for my comment is to tell you how awesome and funny the picture is for your ‘Protected: Llama Drama Giveaway’.
First of all, the plants are beautiful and I know first hand about proper drainage problems.
Everything looks so lush and green! I hope to have as nice a garden someday.
What a great garden. It is so green and beautiful. I might give gardening a try.
