The Upside Of Fear
by Weldon Long
Before telling you about this book let me tell you about
the most extraordinary experience that I had
on a recent Southwest Airline flight.
I truly believe that this was a gift from God.
Let me tell you what happened…

I am terrified of flying, so I try to keep my mind occupied
when I’m in airports and when I’m on board.
The last time I was on a plane, I immediately
started reading (after, of course, fastening my seat belt),
the book that I had with me.
As we started down the runway,
one of the flight attendants asked me
if I was enjoying the book.  I told her yes.
The second flight attendant asked me
about the book…
the three of us began to talk…and talk…and talk.
Two very important
pieces of information came into play:
1.  I told them about my book blog.
2.  I told them about my oldest son, who is in prison.

Once the crew was cleared to begin in-flight service,
the gentleman sitting next to me
asked if he could speak to me for a few minutes.
He told me that he overheard my discussion with
the flight attendants and that he was a published author.
He asked if he could give me a copy of his
book, and then we talked… talked… and talked.

This man, this stranger – told me about his life.
At first, I was thinking that his story was
just too far fetched to be believable,
but I listened politely, and watched his face as he spoke.
There was truth and sincerity in his eyes,
and his smile lit up the cabin.
After we talked for a while, this remarkable man
got up out of his seat, and reached into the overhead,
and got out his carry on bag.
He gave me a copy of his book,
The Upside Of Fear
(and a set of CD’s – Discover the secret of your Greatness).
I started to read…
I had to get up and go into the lavatory several times,
because I became so overwhelmed.
I just didn’t want everyone seeing me blubber like a baby.
Heavenly Father sent this man to me.
HE knew that I needed a couple of  things:

1.  A distraction from my fear of flying.
2.  Hope.
I may never meet Wally again, but he will always be in my heart.
If you have fears, if you know of anyone who has fears,
if you want to help yourself or someone you love…
please consider getting a copy of
The Upside Of Fear.
Embrace the book, share the book.

From the brutality of violent street crime to the compassion of a loving father for his son, this powerful memoir takes you from desperation to inspiration through the transformation of a drug-addled criminal into a fully realized, successful man.

The Upside of Fear exposes you to the harsh reality of a criminal life and creates a riveting portrait of true crime at its fundamental level–from buying the duct tape for an armed robbery to saving the life of a prison guard. Long recounts his harrowing journey of self-discovery and how he went from being a drunk in a jail cell to the CEO of a multimillion dollar business. Twenty years of drinking, drugging, robbing, and lying led him to more than a decade of time spent in prisons, jails, and halfway houses–and a strained relationship with a son he barely knew.

Through the revealing perspective of an eloquent criminal, you will learn how to change fear into a positive motivating force and use the mind to strengthen the will, even in the bleakest of circumstances. Long’s story demonstrates that love can redeem even the most hopeless criminal, and that there can be no emotions stronger than the desire for redemption and the love of a father separated from his son by prison bars.

Praise for The Upside of Fear:
