Weak or a Pushover Kindness Doesn’t Make You These Day 12
Kindness is often seen as being weak or a pushover in our society, particularly when it comes to success. In order to be successful, we’re told we have to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps, be independent, and look out for our own best interests. However, kindness is actually an essential part of our humanity. In addition, it actually strengthens our character and comes with a number of other benefits. Read on to learn more about why kindness is not being weak or a pushover.
New Perspective on not Weak or a Pushover
When you’re generous toward others, you take the time to truly see them. You observe what they’re experiencing and then move forward to determine how you can best help. Some of you may not think it’s really a big deal to help someone out, but it takes a special kind of effort and care on your part to engage in such an act. Being kind to others lets you see into their lives, if only for a moment. It provides you with a different perspective. You almost always learn something new about yourself and the world around you when you perform acts of kindness.
Strength in Vulnerability
Being kind isn’t weak. In fact, it takes great strength to allow yourself that type of vulnerability. Putting yourself out there by giving to another and inserting yourself into their space takes courage. It’s far easier to stick to yourself and mind your own business than to risk approaching someone else, especially someone you don’t know well. The rewards are great, though, so I always think it’s worth it to share kindness.
Increased Self-Esteem
When we allow ourselves to become isolated and only interested in our own well-being and that of those in our circles, it can cause us to feel that something’s missing. As humans, we crave connection. We’re social creatures, and I believe we are happier when we’re connected to others. As we’ve discovered during this crash course, kindness brings people together. It builds bonds and strengthens relationships. You’ll feel better about yourself when you consistently engage with others through kind acts. Plus, there’s nothing better than the feeling of knowing you did good for someone else.
Kindness is never a weakness. I hope you’ll remember that and move forward with confidence – knowing that you are powerful in your goals to put good into the world. It’s noble and brave to think of others, rather than being consumed with your own welfare alone. You’ll gain so much strength when you take the time to give back.
