Buckley’s Story
by Ingrid King
Buckleys Story1
From the Publisher:

Buckley’s Story is the story of how one small cat changed the author’s life in ways she never could have imagined. In this warm-hearted memoir, Ingrid King shares the story of Buckley, a joyful, enthusiastic and affectionate tortoiseshell cat she meets while managing a veterinary hospital. When Ingrid leaves her job at the veterinary hospital to start her own business, Buckley comes home to live with her and Amber, another tortoiseshell cat who had adopted the author several years earlier.

Buckley is diagnosed with heart disease after only two years of living with Ingrid, and caring for Buckley through her illness only deepens the bond between cat and human. Interspersed with well-researched information about cat health in general, and heart disease in particular, the author describes the challenges and rewards of managing illness in a feline companion, and ultimately helping her through the final transition. Ingrid shares both the day-to-day joys of living with a special cat as well as the profound grief that comes with losing a beloved animal companion.

Buckley’s Story is a celebration of the soul connection between animals and humans, a connection that is eternal and transcends the physical dimension.

My Review:
I’m a sucker for animal stories.
I consider myself a dog person, but I love cats too,
so I was thrilled to get the chance to read this book.
I’ve had cats all my life, up until the last 7 or 8 years,
and this sweet story has me longing for a kitty again!
King writes with a tremendous depth of understanding of felines.
She also has a great deal of knowledge about the body
(in both humans and animals), and is able to clearly
communicate her thoughts to her readers.

This is an emotional tale, that required a box of tissues at all times.
I cried with happiness and with sorrow.
Animals have always been a part of my life,
and I cannot imagine not having them in my life.
I’ve know first hand, of the joy that pets can bring to a family.
I’ve also been on the receiving end of the love of a rescued pet.
Buckley’s Story, brought back many a tender memory,
and was a joy to read.

  • I adore animals, especially cats, and love animal stories but I have difficulty handling stories in which an animal gets hurt or is abused even if the end of the story is a happy one. I think Ingrid King is an amazing and wonderful woman and an inspiration. She does so much for animals. I wish I had her bravery and courage. Buckley is adorable! I'm so happy he has a wonderful home. Some people won't keep animals who are sick and I think it's always great to hear about an animals who is ill, has a disease or has lost an eye or a leg or some such thing who has found a happy home with a loving human. Buckley's story sounds wonderful. I am adding it to my TBR list and my Christmas List!
    Thanks for a great review!

  • Great review. I just finished this book and thought it was a beautiful story. Animal lovers can completely understand how very much a pet can change our lives.

I really like the disclaimer you have on your post, Libby. Would you mind if I adapted it for my blog?

    Happy Thursday!

I have read Buckley's wonderful story and agree that Ingrid King writes with tremendous depth of understanding, not just of felines, but also of the spiritual beings that animals are. Animals/cat lovers, will really relate to this emotional story of love, commitment and the beauty of the human-animal bond.
