Important Home Maintenance Tasks to Tackle Sooner Rather Than Later

Home maintenance helps ensure that your home is in tip top shape. It’ll prevent costly repairs, improve the efficiency of your home, and just generally make your home look and feel more pleasant. So in this post, we’ll be sharing a couple of important home maintenance tasks that you’ll definitely want to tackle sooner rather than later.

Inspecting and cleaning your gutters

Gutters play a really important role in directing rainwater away from your home. This helps to prevent issues like mold and mildew which can be harmful to the structure of your home. If left alone, these issues can cause serious damage that will be difficult and expensive to repair.

We suggest clearing out your gutters by disposing of any junk you find in them. Clear out leaves, twigs, and debris from your gutters and downspouts. Make sure they’re securely attached and check for any leaks or rust spots while you’re at it as well.

While you’re clearing out your gutters, we also recommend taking a quick look at your roof for any missing or damaged shingles. Fixing these issues will prevent any leaks and water damage, which can be important if you’re about to enter a rainy season. Pay close attention to areas around your skylights and vents as these are common areas for leaks to occur. If you notice any damage or find it difficult to get onto your roof, then call a professional as it’s dangerous to climb up without any safety equipment.

Maintaining your plumbing systems

Plumbing issues can cause serious home damage if you don’t address them quickly. It’s a good idea to inspect your exposed pipes for any issues like leaks and rust and to also check under sinks and around toilets for signs of mold or mildew. These are common areas for moisture to affect our home, so it’s worth visually inspecting these places.

If you notice anything weird such as low water pressure, weird smells, or even strange noises, then we highly recommend getting in touch with a professional plumbing company at the very first sight of a problem. Plumbing issues can be difficult and expensive to repair, so catching them early is usually your best bet to save money and ensure a well-maintained home.

Cleaning up the outside of your home

Lastly, let’s not forget about the outside of your home as well. From cracks in your driveways to loose rocks in your walkways, these issues might not seem like a huge deal at first, but they might be a sign of more serious underlying issues. In fact, they’ll become progressively more expensive to fix in the future, so it’s important to resolve them sooner rather than later. This might require using sealant on the cracks, or it could involve replacing the rocks and tiles in your walkways to prevent trips and falls.

You should also aim to keep your garden in top condition as well. This can include cleaning up any loose debris from leaves and branches and also trimming your lawn to inhibit weed growth. There are lots of ways to maintain your garden, but it can be quite time-consuming and will require gardening knowledge, so we recommend getting in touch with a gardening service if you’re not well-versed in its maintenance.

  • Sometimes that slow leak really adds up. Just had one in my bath tub, filled a 5 gallon bucket overnight. Not really sure how long it took
