Packing is critical, whether you’re going on a weekend trip or a month-long vacation. If you forget something essential, you’ll end up having to shop at your destination, which could end up being more expensive, depending on where you go. If you pack too much, you’ll be unorganized, paying extra for airline baggage fees, and burdened with bags that’ll be quite heavy.

Roll Your Clothes

It doesn’t matter if you’re going on one of the many San Diego wine tours or to the beaches of Hawaii, travelers who need to make the most of their space need to roll their clothes as opposed to folding them. Clothing that’s rolled tightly will not take up as much space as folded clothes and they’ll be less likely to get those deep creases that are inherent with folding.

Make a List

Procrastinators tend to fall short when it comes to packing. Begin packing a week or so in advance to get an idea of what you need to bring on your trip. Clothing such as trendy tops for plus-size women may take some time to find the perfect style you’re looking for so it helps planning in advance and ordering online. Crafting a list for packing is a great way to make sure that you don’t forget anything critical.

Know the Baggage Fee Policy for Your Airline

Whether you’re going on a lighthouse river trip or across the globe to a third-world country, if you’re going to be flying, you’ll need to know the baggage fee policy for the airline you chose. It’s important, especially if you happen to be budget minded. Most airlines will allow you to check a minimum of one bag on flights that are international, but when it comes to domestic flights, most U.S. carriers tend to charge an added fee for anything you check.

Pack All-Purpose Clothing Items

If something happens to be two-in-one, that means that you’ll have one less item to pack. This might be a pair of pants that turn into a pair of shorts or even a jacket that transforms into a pillow for traveling. All of these things are well worth their prices when it comes to avoiding airline baggage fees.

Checking Essential Items

Ensure that all of your essential and valuable items go into your carry-on bags as opposed to into bags that will be checked. This includes things like electronics, jewelry, credit cards, money, identification, your passport, and any other valuables. All of these things should be carried onto the plane when you board. It might not be essential to tell you why you need your identification, money, and passport with you, but in the event that your luggage is lost by the airline, you might have regrets about putting that expensive piece of jewelry into a bag that you checked.
