Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND for a Bright Future Results

Last week I told you about Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND formula dog food for senior dogs.  This formula is designed to help improve cognitive awareness in dogs who are seven years of age and older.  Today I would like to tell you about my experience with Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND and the results that have come from feeding this food to my senior dog.

Gabe 1
Gabriel “Good Boy”, my beloved Service Dog

I started Gabe on BRIGHT MIND about 7 or 8 weeks ago.  He was happy with it from the very beginning. We began by offering it as treats during the day, then gradually replacing the new food for the old food. During this period he never had any stomach issues, since we did not go “cold turkey”.  Gradual change is always best (unless your veterinarian has said differently) when it comes to a pets diet.  I can honestly say that I have seen improvement!

So excited for positive changes.

I wasn’t expecting drastic changes within 30 days of exclusive feeding of BRIGHT MIND, but I have been thrilled.

First, let me tell you a little about Gabriel.  He was a rescue.  He was nabbed by a dog catcher, and placed in a kill shelter in a small town in Kansas. His guardian angel, his rescuer Leah, knew right away that he had been trained by someone.  (Unfortunately, she and I also believe that he must have been abused to some extent.) When we were partnered together 5 years ago, the veterinarian estimated his age to be around 3 years, so that makes him almost 8 years old now.  These 5 years with him have been so absolutely wonderful, and there aren’t enough words to do justice to our story. Oh, how I love him.  He’s very intelligent, but there are a few things that we have had trouble with.  I’ll tell you about one thing, specifically.

The Doggy Door

We got a doggy door a couple of years ago.  It was for our other dog, Gung Poe Wigglebutt.  I wanted to be able to leave the house for more than a couple of hours at a time, without having to have someone come over to let him out.  The doggy door has worked out great for Poe.  He caught on right away.  Gabe, not so much.  I don’t know what it was about the door, but he wasn’t having anything to do with it.  Oh how we struggled.  We coaxed and cajoled.  We smeared the outside with lunch meat.  We propped one side open.  We even resorted to physically pushing him through.  Nothing. Zip. Zilch. Nada. I finally just gave up.

Guess what?

He has started using the doggy door.  All on his own.  One day recently, I noticed him sitting in the hallway, just looking at the door.  A few minutes later, Poe came over and hopped through to go out to the back yard.  Gabe looked at me, looked at the door, looked back at me and then right through the door he went.  You could have knocked me down with a feather! The first couple of days after that, he would go out the doggy door, but when it was time to come in, he would stand at the backdoor and bark, and bark and bark. Each time, I would go to the doggy door and tap on it, and over he’d come and hop through the door.  After about 3 days, I just ignored the barking and after a minute of two, he come back through the doggy door on his own without any prompting.

Swoosh – and out the door he goes!

I don’t believe that this is a coincidence!

I’ve also noticed that his barking at the mail carrier and the UPS and FedEx delivery guys has lessened, and that is something that we’ve also been working on for quite a while.  If these are the results from full feeding in just 30 days on Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND formula dog food, I can only imagine that his mental acuity will continue to improve.  This is so comforting to me.  I will love him no matter what, and he will always be a beloved member of the family, but the longer he is physically and mentally fit, the longer he can work as my Service Dog!

Just a few things to think about…

• According to experts at Purina Pro Plan, around age seven, the glucose metabolism in a dog’s brain begins to change, which can affect memory, learning, awareness or decision making. Purina Pro Plan discovered a way to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs 7+ through nutrition and has introduced BRIGHT MIND Adult 7+ formulas.
• Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind contains enhanced botanical oils shown to promote alertness and mental sharpness in dogs seven and older with visible results within 30 days.
• When added to the daily diet of dogs 7+, formulas that contained enhanced botanical oils promoted memory, attention and trainability.
• Owners who feed their senior dogs Purina Pro Plan Bright Mind as a daily diet may notice differences in owner-dog interaction, interest in play and the ability to adapt and cope with change.
• Dogs are considered senior by the time they reach age seven
• There are approximately 87 million dogs in the U.S. and an estimated 44 percent of them are seven years and older

If you have a senior dog – age seven and older, and would like to see him or her be as mentally alert as possible, I highly recommend heading on over to your local PetSmart and picking up a bag of  Purina® Pro Plan® BRIGHT MIND,  and giving it a try for at least 30 days.

  • This sounds like a really good dog food. We have a dog that is 12 years old so she could really use something like this. Your dog is so cute!
