Seeking Virtue Sunday on the Anniversary of September 11th, 2001
as so many others have…
I changed my mind.
Each year, as September rolls around,
I always fear that a fraction of our population
will use this “anniversary” as a time to
spread fear and hatred against a targeted
group of people. I fear that anger and animosity
will override the real meaning of why
we honor those who lost their lives,
due to the actions of a very few.
As a nation, I hope that we never ever forget
the events of that tragic day.
May we always keep those who died…
many simply because of where
they happened to be – and others due to their
bravery and heroism…
in our thoughts and prayers.
More importantly, may we remember
that our country is one of many
races, ethnicities, religions, and nations of origin.
We are a melting pot of different cultures and beliefs.
And though our Founding Fathers built this great land
upon Christian principles,
our doors are open to those of all faiths.
We are, and will continue to be
at war with terrorism and terrorists,
but we are NOT at war with any
peoples of specific countries,
or religious affiliations.
34 ¶Then Peter opened his mouth, and said,
Of a truth I perceive that God is no arespecter of persons:
O
ur Heavenly Father does not love us more
because of our national origin. He does not show
favor or withhold blessings because of who
our parents might be, what is in our bank accounts,
how we look, or dress, our religious backgrounds,
or how we worship.
Do not smear the memory of those who lost
their lives, by dwelling on the deeds of a few…
But honor their memory,
with service and thanksgiving,
so that they may have not died in vain.
