Although restrictions have been eased in many places, a lot of us are still having to spend the majority of our time at home indoors due to the COVID 19 pandemic, and many of us are struggling with the boredom, loneliness and isolation of the situation.
If you know someone who’s finding it tough right now, you might feel helpless to do anything for them, but actually, there are a lot of really simple things you can do to cheer someone up during quarantine. Here are a few of them…
Write them a letter
In this age of constant connectivity, it has never been easier to communicate via Skype, Zoom and Whatsapp, not to mention by phone, but that means that electronic communication is no longer seen as anything special – it’s the norm. So, why not shake things up and put a smile on someone’s face during lock-down by sitting down and writing them a heartfelt letter. Getting something in the post is always fun and they’ll appreciate the extra thought and attention you put into the gesture.
Send them something tasty
A lot of people are only buying the essentials as part of their food shop now, so if you take the time to send out a soft pretzel gift box, exotic fruit hamper or some fancy chocolates, for example, you know that the recipient is really going to appreciate them. Think about the kind of treats they really love in normal times and send them something similar but even more special for maximum cheering up.
Arrange to meet for a socially distanced walk
If the restrictions where you are allow it, there’s nothing nicer than arranging to meet your loved one in a park or other open space for a socially distanced walk. Sure, you won’t be able to hug or kiss, but you will be able to see and speak to each other in the flesh, which will be amazing. You’ll also get to take in some fresh air and spend some stress-relieving time in nature too. For extra points, pack a picnic lunch full of tasty treats and make an afternoon of it.
Send them a care package
Sending someone you care about, who is struggling, a coronavirus care package which contains not only nice edible treats but also good books, flowers, essential oils, and other things that will help to relax and de-stress them is a great way to show them that they have not been forgotten, and help them to get through the quarantine period with a bit more ease. Again, just think about the kinds of things they would appreciate and try to include as many of them as you can. Add a personalized note so they know just how much you are thinking about them and you’re sure to put a smile on their face.
Although the above ideas are sure to cheer people up during quarantine, there is no substitute for simply making it known that you are there for them in any way that they need you and which is safe for you all.
