How You Can Stay In Touch With Family Overseas

If you are relocating or currently live in another country, it can be difficult for your family to accept your decision to leave. It is never easy to realize that you will not be able to see each other on a regular basis; but, you will adjust and become accustomed to the new situation.

That being said, it is vital that you frequently speak with one another and stay in touch with one another regularly, just as if you were living in close proximity. However, the good news is that there are numerous ways to communicate with each other ranging from video chats to mail and social media messages. Birthdays and other important occasions can be celebrated with family and friends at any time thanks to the magic of the internet.

Here, we look at some of the ways that you can stay in touch with family overseas.

Whatsapp and Facebook Messenger

Because time differences and schedules might be difficult to navigate depending on how far away your family members live, a quick message on Facebook Messenger or Whatsapp can be a terrific way to stay in touch. Make sure you are communicating with each other on a regular basis and sharing pictures that show what you have been doing.  You could even set up a group chat so that your other family members can remain in touch and see what you are all up to at the same time. Because both Facebook and Whatsapp are web-based applications, it will not cost you anything to communicate with one another on a regular basis.

Video chats

While you are all busy, texting or messaging each other will suffice; nevertheless, make sure to schedule regular video calls to keep the lines open. Zoom and Skype are amongst the most popular, allowing you to video call with as many family members as you want to at the same time. Each other’s presence can help you feel as if you are present with them and can assess how they are faring in the process. Video chats are also more personal and enjoyable because you can plan to have a drink together, celebrate, open sentimental Christmas gifts, play games, and just spend time together, albeit virtually.

Snail mail

Sending each other letters is a wonderful way to surprise each other while also letting them know you are thinking about them. This is something that is not done very often, but it is a very pleasant surprise when you receive it in the mail instead of a bill. Instead, why not get a postcard depicting something related to the local area that they may save and display at their home? When they return one to you, you can keep it as well as they did before. Children can also send drawings and pictures they have done too.

As you can see from the examples above, there are numerous ways to stay in touch with your loved ones, whether you or they live in another country. Make sure you are sending out messages and chatting online on a regular basis to stay in touch. Sending them a note every now and then will not only put a grin on their face, but it will also put a smile on yours when you receive a response.
