This, my friends, in my humble opinion, is one of the BEST offerings to spark imaginative play.  And that is saying a lot, coming from me…mother of 10 and grandmother of 26.

Yes, kids are “more sophisticated”, for lack of a better term, these days. I routinely see tots at just a year old, engrossed in their parents smart phones. Tablets are as common as balls and jacks were, in my day.  Little ones are glued to screens for hours on end.  Yes, that keeps them busy, but is it really the best thing for them.  In moderation, I see no harm, but I hate that kids must be entertained, instead of entertaining themselves.

Enter, a patch of grass, some hedges and fencing…and let the fun begin. I’m telling you, once they get over the shock, they will spend hours with this.

How often do you hear a whiny voice proclaiming “I’m bored”?  Not in my day (yes, I’m OLD).  If we said we were bored, I can guarantee you that we were given something to do…and it wasn’t fun.  You learned very quickly to remove that phrase from your vocabulary.  Kids are bored now days because they often haven’t been given the chance to learn how to play.
